Sito in lingua Italiana Sito in lingua Inglese Sito in lingua Occitana

Italy ensures linguistic protection to historical minority languages, in accordance with Legge 482/99 “Norme in materia di tutela delle minoranze linguistiche storiche.” Each year, the majority of the funds are allocated to the establishment of Language Bureaus, made available to municipalities, institutions, associations. They provide translation services and are dedicated to protecting and promoting historical minority languages and their culture. The Language Bureaus are engaged in the development, promotion and protection of minority languages present in each territory with different actions crossing many fields and sectors.

The task of the Language Bureaus is to connect the national and regional activities to local activities, but also to coordinate and boost the activities of local cultural associations by guiding their objectives and by providing assistance and advice to local agencies on how to implement the protection and promotion actions of local minority languages
